AFTERCARE

Because your jewellery deserves a healthy, happy home.

We always give you all the information you need in person, but here’s everything in one place if you want to refresh your memory. Even if you’ve heard it all before, it’s always good to remind yourself why these steps matter.

If your piercer didn’t explain these essentials, or suggested something that didn’t sound quite right, there’s nothing wrong with looking for extra help. You deserve top-tier care.

Why Aftercare Matters

Piercings are essentially small wounds, and good aftercare means:

Faster, cleaner healing with fewer complications

Reduced risk of bumps, infections, and scarring

Jewellery that stays secure and shiny for longer

You’ve invested in quality jewellery - now let’s give your body the support it needs to heal properly.

Clean Twice Daily with Packaged Sterile Saline

Use products like NeilMed or Piercemed Piercing Aftercare (our favourites!).

Spray directly on the piercing or soak with sterile gauze for 2–3 minutes.

Do not twist or turn the jewellery, this irritates healing tissue.

Hands Off...Unless Cleaning

Wash your hands thoroughly before cleaning.

Avoid touching, twisting, or fiddling, it increases infection risk.

Let It Breathe & Keep It Clean

Don’t cover with tight dressings.

Rinse off soap residue after showering.

Sleep on the other side, or use a travel pillow with a hole.

Avoid Harsh Products

No alcohol, hydrogen peroxide, tea tree oil, antibacterial soaps, or iodine.

Avoid ointments, they trap moisture and delay healing.

Even if the surface looks healed, deeper tissue may still be repairing.

Downsizing Matters

If you had a longer bar/post fitted for swelling, your piercer should book you a check-up and downsize once healing allows. Downsizing helps:

Prevent irritation, bumps, and pressure

Reduce the risk of jewellery catching or shifting

We recommend a check-up at around 6 weeks to confirm healing progress and decide if downsizing is right for you.

Bonus: General Wellness Affects Healing

Stay hydrated and eat well, your body needs fuel to heal.

Avoid swimming (especially lakes, pools, or hot tubs) early on.

Keep makeup, skincare, and sprays away from the piercing.
